Welcome to the Department of Family Medicine at ASTER MIMS, Kozhikode, where our mission is to provide continuous comprehensive care to individuals and families by integrating biomedical, behavioral, and social sciences. Established in 2005 under the guidance of MIMS Academy, which conducts numerous programs in various specialties, our DNB program in Family Medicine is an integral part of our commitment to medical excellence.
Family Medicine is a clinical specialty that encompasses the care of all organ systems, gender, and age groups. Family physicians are trained to take professional responsibility for providing comprehensive care to patients with undifferentiated problems. Our residents undergo a rigorous training program that includes rotational postings in various departments, including peripheral health centers.
Our approach is patient-centered, holistic, evidence-based, and focused on families and communities. We train our residents to manage common complaints, recognize important conditions, uncover hidden conditions, and handle acute and chronic illnesses. Our structured training schedule ensures that residents have ample opportunities to provide primary and continuing care to entire families, addressing physical, psychological, and social aspects of health while coordinating healthcare services with other specialties.

Dr. Mumina Razack, Calicut born doctor who is young and enthusiastic. In 2016, she began working as a DNB resident in the department of Family Medicine at ASTER MIMS Calicut. She made every effort to learn as much as she could during her rotational posting. She was highly appreciated from all the department heads for her sincere and incredible work. She utilized all the opportunities during each department postings.She was awarded presidents NBE gold medal at the 20th convocation of National Board of Examination in New Delhi. She was also awarded Dr. N.S. Venugopal Memorial gold medal from ASTER MIMS, Calicut in 2019.
I am Dr. Fasna V did my family medicine post graduation from Aster MIMS Calicut. I feel blessed that I got DNB family Medicine from this institute. Thanks to all my teachers, especially Dr. Vijayan, Dr. P K Sasidharan, Dr. Jesheera Muhammedkutty and Dr. Bijayraj. We had a correct curriculum of the subjects and proper training from all the departments, which helped me to achieve 22nd NBE President's gold medal. Aster MIMS is providing training according to principles of family medicine. We do have good library system, different weekly case presentation clubs along with well Knowledge'd faculties, who are friendly, providing proper guidance. Therefor, I think getting a award in my department reflects excellence of all departments in this institute. Thankyou all in Aster MIMS.
