Our DNB program in General Medicine commenced in 2004 with an intake of one candidate per year, which was progressively increased to accommodate four candidates per year in 2019. The department fosters a culture of academic excellence through regular seminars, topic presentations, clinical classes, and monthly mortality meetings. Candidates undergo monthly theory exams to ensure comprehensive coverage of the curriculum.

The Department of General Medicine at Aster MIMS is dedicated to fostering academic excellence and providing state-of-the-art facilities for our DNB students. Our diverse spectrum of cases includes infectious diseases, hematological disorders, endocrinological conditions, gastrointestinal ailments, neurological disorders, rheumatological issues, and dermatological conditions. Candidates gain hands-on experience in various medical procedures, including lumbar puncture, ascitic tapping, bone marrow studies, pleural tapping, and line insertions.
To provide a well-rounded education, our candidates undergo rotations in various specialties such as Neurology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Dermatology, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Hemato-Oncology, and Pulmonology, preparing them to manage a wide array of medical conditions. Our intensive care unit (ICU) is equipped with advanced facilities, including ECMO services, ensuring candidates gain valuable experience in managing critical care patients. The department's exceptional emergency care unit is recognized for its international standards, offering candidates opportunities to manage emergency cases effectively.
We provide access to a fully equipped library with online subscriptions to international journals, facilitating up-to-date research and learning. Standard textbooks are readily available for candidates' use from 8 am to 8 pm. Our department actively supports research activities and publications, with a dedicated research team consisting of experienced faculty members who have contributed to numerous national and international publications.
The DNB candidates from the Department of General Medicine have a strong track record of publishing articles, including original research and case reports, in many national and international journals. Our candidates consistently achieve academic excellence, with one candidate earning the Gold Medal Award for the Best Outgoing Student in 2020. The department has been the center for the Final Theory Assessment (FAT) exams for DNB candidates from all over the state, emphasizing the quality of education and training provided. We have also conducted the final DNB practical exam in General Medicine.

My DNB Medicine course at Aster MIMS hospital(2019-2022), without any doubt, was the best decision of my career. DNB Medicine department at Aster MIMS is headed by Dr. Manojan T, a renowned physician and teacher, who has been my mentor and inspiration throughout my course. I was so lucky to learn the clinical and practical aspects of Medicine from Dr. P K Sasdiharan, former professor and head of the department of internal medicine and haematology at Calicut Medical College, a well-known medical teacher, author, and researcher. He and the other faculty members have been very supportive, encouraging, and helpful in every aspect of my learning. They have taught me not only the theoretical and practical aspects of medicine but also the ethical and humanistic values of being a doctor. Being a part of the Aster MIMS family for three years was a wonderful and stress-free experience, thanks to the excellent Management and the superb DNB Programme department led by Dr. Remesh Bhasi, Jyothi Madam, and Radha Madam.
