Academic Excellence and Facilities

Our department is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure to provide the highest standards of patient care. Located in a standalone complex, we house a 16-bedded day care chemotherapy unit alongside specialized OPDs for Medical, Hematology, Surgical, Head and Neck, and Orthopedic Oncology. We also offer a 20-bedded Acute Care unit for moribund/sick patients, day care procedures, transfusions, and chemotherapy administration.

Additionally, we have two Linear Accelerators for radiation therapy within the same building. The department boasts a dedicated Bone Marrow Transplant Unit (BMTU) with five beds, supported by a modern blood bank. A separate conference room facilitates departmental activities, tumor board meetings, and postgraduate teaching programs.

Our department plays a vital role in the management of various solid and hematological malignancies in both adults and children. We serve approximately 40,000 OPD patients annually and act as a referral center for neighboring districts. With over 550 courses of chemotherapy administered monthly in the day care unit, we ensure comprehensive care through diagnostics and various procedures, including bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, and more.

Our Bone Marrow Transplant Unit (BMTU) successfully conducts both autologous and allogenic transplants, achieving outcomes that meet national and international standards. Multidisciplinary collaboration is essential in cancer care, and we collaborate closely with Surgical, Radiation, Orthopedic, and Head and Neck oncology departments. The Radiation Oncology department offers advanced radiation techniques, while the Surgical Oncology department performs complex procedures like HIPEC and robotic surgeries.

At the Department of Medical Oncology, we foster a culture of teamwork and multidisciplinary approaches. We conduct weekly multidisciplinary tumor board meetings and a monthly molecular tumor board to formulate comprehensive care plans based on guidelines. Our academic programs include seminars, journal clubs, and bedside rounds.

The Dr.NB program in Medical Oncology, initiated in 2022 under the guidance of MIMS Academy, offers trainees exposure to a wide range of malignancies and treatments. Our program emphasizes continuous learning, encourages staying updated with the latest developments in oncology, and provides access to a well-stocked library and academic publications. Trainees are encouraged to pursue academic research and have the opportunity to present their findings at national and state-level conferences. Join us in this academic and clinical journey to become proficient medical oncologists.
