Welcome to the Department of Orthopaedic at Aster MIMS Calicut, a pioneering institute in Kerala and South India, renowned for its commitment to innovation and excellence. Our DNB program in Orthopaedic surgery, accredited by the NBE, New Delhi, commenced in 2012 and has since successfully graduated over 20 candidates, now excelling in their respective practices.
With the dynamic evolution of Orthopaedic subspecialties, our program ensures that candidates receive exposure to various subspecialties, empowering them to make informed decisions about their future specialization. The department comprises two units, each led by consultants with expertise in arthroplasty, trauma, arthroscopy, pediatric Orthopaedic, and spine surgery. Our clinical team, with an average collective experience of 15-20 years, has been trained globally in top centers, contributing significantly to major state and national conferences, AO training programs, and ATLS programs.
Our department features two state-of-the-art Orthopaedic surgery theaters equipped with laminar flow, image intensifier, operating microscope, and a computer navigation system. The recent additions of Robotic surgery for knee replacement and endoscopic spine surgery highlight our commitment to embracing cutting-edge technologies.

At Aster MIMS Orthopaedic department, we cover a vast spectrum of cases, providing candidates with extensive exposure to the entire range of Orthopaedic disorders. Candidates receive hands-on training in Orthopaedic emergencies through postings in the emergency department. We specialize in the latest joint replacement and reconstructive surgeries, utilizing techniques such as robotic-guided surgery and minimally invasive approaches. Our expertise extends to sports medicine, arthroscopy surgeries, and complex knee and shoulder reconstruction surgeries.
The department is a regional leader in pediatric Orthopaedic and spine surgery, managing a wide range of conditions, including complex deformity correction surgeries, limb reconstructions, and scoliosis corrections. We are at the forefront of adopting the latest technologies, pioneering the use of navigation, robotics, endoscopy, and 3D printing guidance.
On the academic front, the department conducts regular programs, including weekly seminars and clinical case presentations. Monthly theory exams ensure that candidates remain engaged with their studies. We encourage research through frequent thesis reviews, guiding candidates to produce publishable work. Candidates actively participate in presenting research papers at conferences and publishing in indexed journals.
