Academic Excellence and Facilities

At the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, Aster MIMS, we are committed to advancing the field through education, research, and cutting-edge facilities. Our operation theatre complex is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for performing complex liver surgeries, including those for cholestatic liver diseases and liver tumors. We have pioneered innovative techniques such as robotic liver cancer surgery and laparoscopic donor hepatectomy, setting new benchmarks in surgical innovation.

With a track record of approximately 300 liver transplants performed over a short span of time, our center stands as the single high-volume liver transplant center in North Kerala, achieving results at par with international standards. We also specialize in pediatric liver transplants and minimally invasive donor surgeries, providing comprehensive care for patients of all ages.

Our Liver Intensive Care and Anesthesia unit offers round-the-clock perioperative care, catering to patients with complex liver diseases and acute liver failure (ALF) requiring critical care support. Additionally, we utilize advanced liver supportive services such as plasma exchange and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) to optimize outcomes for patients undergoing liver transplants.

In the field of GI surgery, we routinely perform minimally invasive procedures for both malignant and benign conditions, including esophagectomy, gastrectomy, Whipple's resection, and total proctocolectomy, among others. Through our super-specialty training program in Surgical Gastroenterology (DNB Gastrosurgery), accredited by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi, we groom the next generation of surgical leaders, providing them with comprehensive clinical exposure and mentorship.

2020-2023

It fills me with immense pleasure for having been a part of Aster Mims and Dept. of surgical gastroenterology. The cases and the colleagues, the team and the training, the people and the parties, all remain as the moments to cherish throughout my life. I am beyond happy for having grown wiser at such a place and would easily recommend anyone who wishes to be a part of it.
